Sixty former and visiting Monessenites got together over the weekend of February 3, 200l at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center in Ocala, Florida, proving that; "You can take the people out of Monessen, but you can’t take Monessen out of the people".
Headed by Joe Garofalo, Jane Beatty Perry and Martha Billy Zollars, it started out as a dinner for the 1950 classmates of Monessen High School. At their 50th reunion, the classmates found out that 17 members of their class were living in Florida and that they would like to get together.
When word got out, requests started coming in of other Monessenites wishing to attend; so an article went into the Valley Independent late last year. Any Monessenite living in Florida, visiting in Florida or a Florida snowbird was invited. Eventually it mushroomed and 60 Monessenites attended.
A table of Monessen Memorabilia was displayed as everyone mingled and had a great time reminiscing. A delicious dinner was served and a short program followed. During the dinner, Norman Visca called from the state of California (Monessen West) and extended everyone his best wishes.
Guests came from as far North as Pennsylvania, North Carolina, & Georgia and as far south as Miami.
