  • The Insurance Club of Pittburgh presents Albert with a check for $1,455.00. All proceeds will go to the Free Care Fund. Albert's total contributions are growing and growing! 

  • Albert receives the "Big I Reward" at the Hilton Hotel in Pittsburgh. The Independent Insurance Group Corporation presented the award to Albert on Thursday, April 19th.

  • New Page: (for the Holidays) "God's Shoe Shiner" - written by some of Albert's friends.

  • Albert is featured in the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging's "Senior Times" December, 1999 Issue.

  • Albert receives a large supply of shoe polish and supplies from Kiwi. An anonymous Donora resident wrote letters to the shoeshine polish manufacturer requesting that they make good on their promise to send a lifetime of shoeshine polish to Albert. His efforts paid off and Albert received 12 dozen giant containers of black paste polish, 12 dozen containers of brown and 12 dozen containers of cordovon polish and also a dozen sponge daubers, a dozen shoe shine cloths and a dozen shine brushes. The value was estimated at between $1,100 and $1,600 (and weighed about 80 pounds!). 

  • Cassy Jack's Eighteenth Annual Birthday Bash took place on Saturday, January 29th. Albert was honored at the event and was inducted into Casson's "Hall of Friends". The annual party, that was held at the Landmark Place in Monessen, benefits the American Cancer Society. To date, $99,090 has been raised from Casson's birthday parties. Help Cassy Jack achieve his goal of $100,000 by sending donations to: Don Casson, 205 Modisette Ave, Donora, PA 15033. Make the checks payable to the American Cancer Society.
  • 1997 Jefferson Award (In recognition of the work he does for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh).
  • Albert's story is included in the book, "Courage is Contagious: Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things to Change the Face of America", by John Kasich. Orders are being taken at Amazon.com. (Word is it that Albert will autograph this book on the condition that he receives a dollar (at least) for Children's Hospital.)
  • Honored at Monessen's Westgate Manor. Albert was presented with the key to the city of Monessen and other special presentations.
  • John Kasich, author of "Courage is Contagious" appears on the November 5th, 1998 edition of the "Today Show" and discusses Albert's story with Matt Lauer.

  • Albert receives the "Heart of Gold" lifetime pass from Pat Transit. Albert can now ride all PAT vehicles for free.

  • Albert appears on the KDKA Children's Hospital Free Care Friends Benefit Show. He displays a rather "large" check for $42,600 that he has donated to the fund.

  • Albert receives a lifetime pass from the Mid-Mon Valley Transit Authority - (MMVTA). Albert can now make his Mon Valley rounds for free!
  • Valley Tire, in Charleroi, Pa., put up a Christmas tree for Children's Hospital donations. Each $1.00 donation is marked by a snowflake ornament on the tree. The company is supporting Albert in his cause.

  • USA Today reviews Courage is Contagious and mentions Albert's story.

  • The Donora Rotary honors Albert with a "Community Service Award" for his donations to Children's Hospital.

  • Honored at the Honors Program and Legislative conference, in Washington D.C. This event is sponsored by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.
  • On June 11, 1999, Albert becomes an honorary graduate of Monessen High School.
  • On June 26, 1999, The Albert Lexie Day program was held at St. Michael's Antiochian Church, in Monessen. Performances by Jewel Restaneo, Tom Octave and Albert. Several presentations and remarks were made to Albert. Melanie Monaghan of B-94 radio in Pittsburgh, served as the mistress of ceremonies. Albert received many personal gifts, among them was a class ring from Rizzuto's Jewelers.
